Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Next Chapter ("we," "us," or "our") handles information when you use the website and application available at https://www.next-chapter.cloud/, including document upload, analysis, action-plan generation, and related services.

By using Next Chapter, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

1. Overview

Next Chapter is designed to help you understand employment and severance documents. We take privacy seriously:

  • We do not require you to create an account.
  • We do not maintain a server-side database of your documents or personal information.
  • Documents and profile information you submit are processed to provide the service and are not retained on our servers after processing completes.

Some information may be stored locally in your browser so you can move through the app without re-entering everything. You can clear that data at any time.

2. Information We Collect

Information you provide directly

When you use Next Chapter, you may provide:

  • Profile information, such as your state, role, employment start date, zip code, and optional details you choose to share (for example, age range signals or medical-leave status) to help tailor analysis.
  • Uploaded documents, such as severance agreements, WARN notices, benefits summaries, RSU schedules, and related employment files.
  • Preferences and goals you select when generating an action plan.
  • Free-text context you add in optional fields.

Employment documents may contain sensitive personal, financial, medical, benefits, family, tax, immigration, or compensation information. Before uploading, consider redacting information that is not needed for analysis, such as full Social Security numbers, bank account numbers, or other highly sensitive identifiers.

Information collected automatically

When you visit the site, we and our service providers may automatically collect certain technical information, such as:

  • Browser type and version
  • Device type and operating system
  • Pages visited and general usage patterns
  • Referring URL
  • Approximate location derived from IP address

We use Google Analytics (measurement ID G-BBKJDHHEC1) to understand how the site is used. Google Analytics may use cookies or similar technologies. You can learn more about Google's practices at https://policies.google.com/privacy.

Payment information

If you make an optional donation, payment is processed by Stripe. We do not receive or store your full credit card number. Stripe handles payment data according to its own privacy policy at https://stripe.com/privacy.

3. How We Use Information

We use the information described above to:

  • Parse, summarize, and analyze documents you upload.
  • Generate explanations, flags, key dates, and action plans.
  • Operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the service.
  • Understand aggregate site usage through analytics.
  • Process optional donations.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your uploaded documents to train AI models.

4. How Document Processing Works

When you request analysis or an action plan:

  1. Your documents and related inputs are sent from your browser to our servers for processing.
  2. Our servers extract text from documents and send relevant content to Anthropic's Claude AI to generate results.
  3. Results are returned to your browser.
  4. We do not persist your uploaded documents or the full contents of your analysis on our servers after the request completes.

Per Anthropic's commercial terms, data submitted through their commercial API is not used to train their models.

5. Local Storage in Your Browser

To support the multi-step flow without an account, Next Chapter may store session data in your browser's local storage, including:

  • Your profile answers
  • Uploaded document content
  • Analysis results
  • Action-plan preferences

This data stays on your device until you clear it. We do not sync it to a cloud account because no account is required.

You can remove this data at any time by clearing your browser's site data for Next Chapter or using any in-app reset option if available.

6. Cookies and Similar Technologies

We may use cookies or similar technologies for:

  • Basic site functionality
  • Analytics (Google Analytics)

Most browsers let you block or delete cookies. Blocking cookies may affect some site features.

7. When We Share Information

We may share information with service providers who help us operate the service, including:

  • Anthropic — AI document analysis and action-plan generation
  • Stripe — optional donation payments
  • Google — site analytics
  • Hosting and infrastructure providers — serving the application

These providers process information on our behalf and only as needed to provide their services. We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect rights and safety, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or asset sale.

We do not share your uploaded documents with employers, recruiters, or other third parties for marketing purposes.

8. Data Retention

  • Server-side: We do not retain your uploaded documents or personal profile data on our servers after processing for a given request is complete, except for temporary processing logs or security records that may exist briefly as part of normal server operation.
  • Browser local storage: Session data remains in your browser until you clear it.
  • Analytics: Google Analytics retention follows Google's configured settings.
  • Donations: Stripe retains payment records according to its policies and applicable law.

9. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect information during transmission and processing. However, no internet-based service can guarantee perfect security. You should only upload documents if you are comfortable submitting them for analysis.

10. Your Choices

You can:

  • Choose not to provide optional profile fields.
  • Redact sensitive identifiers before uploading documents.
  • Clear browser local storage to remove session data.
  • Decline optional donations.
  • Use browser settings to limit cookies or analytics.

Because we do not maintain user accounts, we may not be able to retrieve or delete server-side copies of information that was already processed and discarded. If you have a privacy request, contact us using the information below.

11. Children's Privacy

Next Chapter is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us.

12. California Privacy Rights

If you are a California resident, you may have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, and to opt out of the sale of personal information.

We do not sell personal information. Because we do not maintain persistent server-side records tied to individual users, we may not be able to verify or fulfill all requests in every case. Contact us and we will respond as required by applicable law.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The updated version will be posted on the website with a new effective date. Your continued use of Next Chapter after an update means you accept the revised policy.
